The day I feel like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I’m out of peanut butter. Oh wait, didn’t I see someone post on Facebook or “check-in” to a peanut butter store in Cape May?
Sure enough, on Carpenter Lane there is the Cape May Peanut Butter Co. Taking a smooth walk over there, I come back with a tub of freshly ground organic peanut butter. Problem solved, lunch made, some of the best peanut butter ever. During the walk over and back I get thinking of all the other specialty style stores in Cape May.
On the way home, I see the Cape May Olive Oil Company in the basement of the Merry Widow condo’s on the corner of Jackson and Carpenter. And just a bit further along I can get organic ice cream at Bliss. Yes please, I will have the organic chocolate ice cream. And still I wonder, what else there might be in this town that is constantly recreating itself.
Seaside Cheese, another specialty store, on Park Boulevard is always willing to stock my favorite Huntsman cheese. Steve, the owner is very passionate about his business. In Cape May you can find fresh Honey, organic produce and products at the Organic Market also on Park Boulevard. The list of places I must check out goes on and on.
Sometimes people give Cape May a bad rap for the excess amount of t-shirt stores and shops carrying tchotchke. Conversely we have quite a renaissance of gourmet and specialty boutiques. Including one store you might think is a joke, but it’s Just For Laughs.
This is the time of year when the shops on the mall sponsor free parking in Cape May
